Rhetoric

In the broadest sense, the Rhetoric major concerns human discourse as it relates to persuasion. Rhetoric at Berkeley is grounded in argumentation and the analysis of the symbolic and institutional dimensions of discourse, from both a practical and historical perspective. This includes special attention to logic, style, figurative speech, and image. Students in the major focus on one of the following: History and Theory of Rhetoric, Public Discourse, and Narrative and Image.
